frequency

How many times per second something vibrates. In sound, faster means higher.

How many times per second something vibrates, measured in hertz. In sound, higher frequency is higher pitch: 110 vibrations a second is the note A, and doubling to 220 gives the A an octave up. Every note is a number, and that number is its frequency.
