How high or low a note sounds, set by its frequency.

How high or low a note sounds, set entirely by its frequency. Pitch is what lets you tell one note from another and sing a melody; the piano roll's vertical axis is pitch. Speed a rhythm up far enough and the ear fuses the pulses into pitch, which is the surprise at the heart of organizing time.
